Sawn-Off by House of Motorcycles

Royal Enfield Sawn-Off by House of Motorcycles

For Busted Knuckles Build Off, House of Motorcycles took the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 in a very deliberate direction.

Named the Sawn-Off, this one-of-one build strips the platform back to its most aggressive and essential form. Purpose-built and finished in-house by Cameron Hicks , Australia’s number one ranked Royal Enfield Certified Technician, the bike is a clear expression of restraint, precision and intent. Nothing feels excessive. Nothing feels added for the sake of it. Every change has been made to sharpen the stance, tighten the flow of the bike, and bring out a harder, more purposeful version of the Shotgun 650.

The result is a motorcycle that looks clean, muscular and ready to move, even when it is standing still.

The inspiration behind the build came from classic bobber and drag-bike culture — machines that were traditionally cut down not for show, but for attitude, performance and presence. That thinking shaped the entire direction of the project. The goal was not to overcomplicate the motorcycle or bury it in fabrication. It was to remove the excess, refine the lines, and create something with a strong visual identity that still felt connected to the platform underneath it.

That is what gives the Sawn-Off its impact.

There is a confidence to the build in the way it holds back. Rather than chasing attention through wild concepts or dramatic bodywork, House of Motorcycles focused on proportion, stance and rider position. It is a modern take on old-school rebellion — minimalist, muscular and deliberate.

At the front, the bike runs a low-profile Urban Flyscreen, helping refine the silhouette and clean up the nose without losing the Shotgun’s character. It gives the front end a neater and more resolved look, while subtly reinforcing the build’s stripped-back attitude. That theme continues through the seating choice, with a Black Signature Rider Seat fitted to strengthen the bike’s lean, cut-down profile and carry the line of the motorcycle through the middle.

The stance of the Sawn-Off is one of its defining features, and a big part of that comes down to the suspension setup. House of Motorcycles fitted XL 10.5-inch rear shocks, giving the bike a lower and more aggressive posture that immediately changes how the Shotgun 650 sits. It is a simple change on paper, but on the finished bike it plays a major role in the overall attitude and presence of the build.

Up top, the cockpit has been reworked with 7/8-inch drag handlebars paired with an Up and Over Riser Kit, creating a more commanding rider position and adding to the bike’s assertive look. It is a setup that suits the direction of the build perfectly — direct, uncomplicated and purposeful.

At the rear, House of Motorcycles introduced one of the neatest custom touches on the bike: a custom curved number plate frame with integrated Ellypse run, turn and brake lighting. It is a clever and well-resolved piece that helps clean up the tail section while keeping everything cohesive and tightly packaged. Alongside that, the build also features bespoke turn signals that have been seamlessly worked into the design, adding function without disrupting the lines of the motorcycle.

That is what stands out across the whole project. Every modification has been made with purpose. Nothing fights for attention. Nothing feels forced. Each part works to improve the motorcycle’s stance, visual flow and rider engagement, while respecting the strength of the original platform.

And that is exactly why the build works so well in the context of Royal Enfield.

The Sawn-Off reflects the brand’s approach to pure motorcycling in a very honest way. It is accessible, customisable and deeply tied to individual rider expression, but it never loses sight of the motorcycle itself. Rather than overbuilding the Shotgun 650, House of Motorcycles chose to refine it. To elevate what was already there. To bring its core DNA into sharper focus.

That approach feels true to Royal Enfield’s wider ethos — simplicity, authenticity and timeless design. It also shows just how much can be achieved with clear thinking, strong taste and thoughtful craftsmanship. The Sawn-Off does not need to shout to make an impression. It has presence because every decision behind it feels measured and intentional.

For Busted Knuckles Build Off, it stands as a strong reminder that custom does not always mean more.

Sometimes it means knowing exactly what to take away.
